Recovery & Backup

The recovery phrase is the primary — and only — recovery mechanism.

Biaka has no server-side recovery. We cannot reset or regenerate your seed, ever.
Forgot your PIN? Restore the wallet with your recovery phrase; you'll set a new PIN. Nothing is lost as long as you have the 12 words.
Lost the recovery phrase and have no device that still holds the wallet? Access to the funds may be permanently lost. No one — including Biaka — can bring them back.
Your phrase is standard BIP-39/44: it also restores in other compatible wallets, so your funds never depend on Biaka existing.

Metadata sync is not a wallet seed backup.

The optional encrypted sync carries only your address book and account structure, sealed on your device. It cannot restore a wallet. Only the recovery phrase restores funds.

Keeping the phrase safe

Write it on paper. Never screenshot it, never type it into another app or website.
Never share it with anyone — Biaka support will never ask for it.
